Online Debates For Everyone
DebateLabs Space is a leading Ukrainian platform for online debates, created to make debating accessible to everyone. Regardless of your experience and skill level, our platform will help you improve your argumentation and public speaking skills. Our mission: to make debates accessible, understandable, and convenient for everyone. We know that many people want to learn how to conduct well-reasoned discussions, improve their public speaking skills, and broaden their horizons—but debates often seem difficult to start. That's why we created DebateLabs Space—a tool that lowers the barriers to entry into the world of debating and allows you to grow at any stage.
Who Is Our Space For?
For pupils and students
- Debates provide an opportunity to look at issues from different perspectives, as you don't always defend your own position - They teach you not to fear public speaking through constant practice of presenting to an audience - They develop skills in argumentation, logic, and thinking
For people who want to develop soft skills
- Debates teach you to speak confidently on any topic, as debate sessions cover a very diverse range of subjects - Regular debate practice develops your speaking style, resulting in fewer logical pauses, repetitions, and filler words - Working in a team and against other teams helps develop skills in interacting with other people
For company managers and HR professionals
- Debates teach how to resolve conflict situations more effectively, because in a discussion you need to understand not only your arguments but also those of your opponent - They develop leadership qualities through the ability to defend your position - They improve teamwork by forming the skill of working together under time pressure and opposing viewpoints - They teach how to see a topic/problem from all angles
For people who speak publicly or plan to
- Debates develop confidence on stage, as constant speech practice under time constraints creates comfort in public speaking - Clarity in speech, as a good presentation depends on the sequence of material delivery, debates form the habit of structuring speeches - Precise formulation of expressions, to ensure everyone understands you correctly during a public speech, you need to choose words precisely, and debates teach this skill
Why Debate At All?
Development of critical thinking
Debates teach you to abstract from personal opinions and look at arguments objectively
Ability to speak persuasively
During debates, participants learn to build clear, structured speeches, speak confidently, answer questions, and present to an audience
Self-confidence
When you learn to speak, argue, and defend your position – not only intellectual but also personal confidence grows. You begin to feel that you can express yourself and be heard
Culture of dialogue
Debates foster respect for opponents, the ability to listen and understand another point of view, even if you disagree with it. This creates a culture of constructive discussion instead of aggressive arguments
Expanding horizons and erudition
We debate on very diverse topics, so speakers constantly encounter new, often complex or unfamiliar issues. Preparation for debates forces you to study new areas, understand context, look for examples, and analyze facts. Over time, you accumulate extensive knowledge from many different fields
Interesting community
Debates are not just about competition, but also about people. You meet intelligent, active, diverse participants from all over the country or even the world. It's a true intellectual gathering
How Do Debates Work?
1
Session creation and preparation for the round
1. The format is selected (for example, British or American) 2. The number of teams and participants is determined 3. Timings for each speech are set 4. Participants and judges are added.
2
Topic announcement and preparation for speeches
Speakers receive the topic and time to prepare their speeches. During preparation, speakers develop cases, arguments, and counterarguments. To remember their material, speakers write down the main components of their speech
3
Participants' speeches
Each participant, starting with the Prime Minister, takes turns delivering their speech. Speeches alternate between government and opposition and have time limits (in the standard format - 7 minutes per speech).
4
Adjudication
Our platform will implement several judging options: 1. Classic mode: the judge is present at the session, takes notes during speeches, and makes decisions at the end of the session 2. Asynchronous mode: the session is conducted without a judge, all speeches are recorded, and after the speeches are completed, DebateLabs judges or the platform's AI judge renders a decision
5
Announcement of results and judge's feedback
1. In the classic judging mode, results are announced as soon as the judge completes the analysis of speakers' presentations, after announcing the decision, the judge provides justification 2. In asynchronous mode, results are sent either to one of the platform's judges, in which case speakers will receive results and feedback as soon as the judge analyzes the speech and determines places; if an AI judge makes the decision, evaluation and feedback are sent immediately after the session ends.
6
Session archiving
All information is stored in the platform's database, you can find any completed session in the archive at any time
